That is the theory. In practice, while the file is indeed compressed, our experience – and that of many readers – is, the subsequent use of the file is tedious.
How to decompress ratDVD?
Although the question would rather be: Why decompress a ratDVD – we have to acknowledge that files compressed into that format do exist and are circulated. So if you happen to get one of those – there is a piece of freeware around that will allow you to decompress ratDVD. The program is called
- ratDVD 0.78.1444 and can be found here
- filehippo.com/download_ratdvd/tech/
The homepage for the freeware would be ► ratDVD.ca
But beware: the decompression into a normal format takes hours (3-4) on a fast machine! The resulting video is of poor quality, and so the question remains: why bother?
How to play a ratDVD?
This question makes more sense. If you do happen to get one, don’t bother to convert it back to a usual video format. You can easily save the time by simply using the Media Player Classic ►. Other players can be found here ► ratdvd.ca/playrat.php, but we do recommend enthusiastically the Media Player Classic.
