These are some “Oops” situations, which can cause you trouble, and put you in a fix. But, relax - your data can be bought back with data recovery software - available for free and simple to use. There are important things to be noted if you want to recover data from your hard disk, flash drives, or multimedia cards: ♦ do not install ♦ do not copy ♦ do not save ♦ do not reboot
The reason is when you delete data from your hard disk, it does not go anywhere - it is not “destroyed” as yet. The data is still present on your storage device, the space occupied by the data simply marked as deleted and made available for reuse, Now, if you write any data on to that drive (by means of installing, copying, saving or rebooting), chances are, that the data you want to recover, might get overwritten with the new data. This will reduce the probability of getting back your data from that drive.
Recuva Recuva is a product of Piriform, the makers of the very popular ► CCleaner. So, we expect a quality product, and Recuva does live up to those expectations. Recuva does a good job of recovering data, and at the same time, is extremely easy to use.On starting, Recuva presents you a wizard, which guides you step-by-step, to perform data recovery. Different options on each step make it really easy to use, even for a novice user. Recuva assists you in recovering documents, pictures, music, videos, and emails. You choose your options, depending upon the type of files you want to recover, i.e. the option “Other”, if you want to see all files, or you want to recover more than one file type. The next screen, or step, presents options to specify the location from where you want to recover the files. Users who are not sure will choose the first option of “I’m not sure”, on choosing which, the whole computer will be searched. Other options are “Recycle Bin”, “My Documents”, and “Removable Drives” (including media cards, iPods, or MP3 players). You can also specify a location of your own.
Also, the colours green, orange, and red indicate these statuses for each file. You select the files to be recovered, and press the “Recover...” button to recover the files to the desired location. If the results do not show the files you want to recover, go through the wizard again, and choose “Deep Scan”. This operation will scan the drives deeper, but will take a lot of time to recover the files, depending on the size of the drive, or location you specified. Experienced users might want to skip this Wizard - by pressing “Cancel” on start. The next screen offers the necessary settings.. Apart from performing data recovery, Recuva performs also a secure file delete, if you want to erase forever. A Portable version is available – most useful if you have no data recovery tool already installed.
PC Inspector File Recovery PC Inspector File Recovery recovers data from FAT or NTFS file systems. Apart from rescuing data that has been deleted, or lost by format, the software also finds lost partitions. The program may seem a little difficult to use showing many options when it is started, but the help file of the program provides a very good tutorial. We recommend reading this tutorial before you attempt data recovery. When the program is started, it will ask to select the language. Thereafter the option screen lets you choose... ► Recovering files that were deleted. ► Recovering lost data caused by system crash, or formatting. ► Recover a lost drive. A little confusion: The three option buttons you will find on the left, the right side of the window shows the steps to be performed next to each button. Beware, this is only a description - you can't "check" any of them! Although they look like radio buttons - unfortunately so - they're simply small circles without any functionality! If you choose to recover files that were deleted, the program will scan for drives, and present you with the list. Choose the logical drive, and click the green check mark button, and a list of files will be displayed. Information regarding the files show Name, Size, Date Modified, Condition, and Type of file. Select the files you want to recover, and select the location to save the file. Remember, not to save the files to the hard drive, from which you want to recover files. For other options, like recovering lost data, and/or recovering lost drive, consult the tutorial of the program. The steps are self-explanatory.
