Enjoy!
Firefox is somewhat of an opposite of Opera. When you’ve downloaded and installed this browser, you will find a piece of software doing little more than browsing the net. You’ve got a bookmark manager alright, a password manager, but there’s no email client. Firefox is what you call a ‘slim’ browser initially focusing on one single task: to browse the net.
Without doubt – our favourite. Possibly for all the wrong reasons – as ImgBurn comes with a very Spartan, minimalistic look and feel.
Most certainly our first choice. The most impressive capability of this program is its tolerance toward read errors on your probably old (and sometimes dirty) Audio Disks. Very rarely indeed will that result in an error in the sound file as Exact Audio Copy (EAC) interacts very closely with your hardware. On first use a fine tuning is performed to achieve the best possible results, and alas, sometimes, a CD/DVD drive may not be supported.
If you want to play a movie or listen to an audio file, if you want it simple, easy and clean, if you just want it to work ...
The main feature list of freeCommander is a complete wish list for any decent filemanager, as a matter of fact for any filemanager that may rightfully be called: excellent!
ner -->Do install Spybot Search & Destroy! It is very easy to use, offers an Easy Mode for beginners, real time protection and an on-line tutorial. This tutorial will help you to understand many of the tasks involved with securing and protecting your PC.

This freeware has its origin as an ersatz, a replacement for MS Paint. The features now entitle it to be classified as advanced image and photo editor. The interface is simple, intuitive, and impressive. It presents the pics you’re editing in tabs that display a thumbnail preview of the image.
This functionality can be extended by plugins, which are provided and maintained by the Paint.NET community. There you also find an extensive help, and many, many tutorials.
This one is not for the immediate beginner. First get your feet wet with the ones above, find out what image editing is about, what you like about it, what you want to do with it. Then come back. The GNU Image Manipulation Program – GIMP surprises with an unusual user interface which is adventurous at least for those learning the basics of image editing. It will take you a while to realize its benefits - which will be easy when using this professional image editor under Linux.
FTP – File Transfer Protocol. This subject is not for the very beginner, who doesn’t usually need it. Normally, this protocol is handled very well by your browser and helps you download files quickly; hence the name. With your growing experience and possible wish to directly take part in the World Wide Web you may want to share your thoughts, ideas, insights, pictures, videos etc. with the rest of us and create your own website or weblog. That is the time when downloading with your browser is not enough anymore and you need an FTP client.
Sooner or later in your relationship to the personal computer you will get in touch with its “inhabitants” – the files. The name is ‘borrowed’ from the file you can really touch and still put in a filing cabinet, but of course in a PC, this ‘PC file’ is an electronic representation. It is a clearly and precisely defined piece of information found on storage medium – usually your hard drive, but also a thumb drive, or a CD/DVD and alike – and only accessible by computer programs. For our purposes and for the purposes of most PC users it is quite sufficient to know, that the various programs we use create and work with different files. The most common known file types are
FileZilla is the one outstanding FTP client out there. It is not only “free as in free beer” but also “free as in free speech”, open source software, available for various platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac) and comes with a modular, intuitive user interface. If you get along with a file manager, you will get along with FileZilla too.

If a standalone application is too much for your needs you may want to have a look at FireFTP. As a Firefox extension it fits seamlessly into Mozilla Firefox and thus of course is available on all platforms Firefox supports. The two-pane view shows your local file system on the left, leaving the right for the remote site. Buttons control up and download, sites are remembered in an Account Manager, interrupted connections resumed.
Another replacement for the Windows Explorer is the freeware tool CubicExplorer. Anyone used working with files and folders will enjoy the tabs, bookmarks, breadcrumbs, and the refined file search.
Just one more freeware filemanager? By no means! The basic approach of this freeware tool is fourfold. You will have to do without tabs, but instead you get a four pane view showing you in a horizontally and vertically split square your chosen folders or drives. If you care to have it so. Each of these filemanager windows has its own folder tree, and of course, they can be arranged to your liking. The view also offers one, two, and yes even three windows, a preview not only for the usual suspects, but also a player for multi-media files like video and audio files.
