Sequoia View

In November 2002 the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven – University of Technology – approached the problem of representing folder/file sizes in the folder tree view.

Using a plain tree view will only show a limited number of items – as the screen space is limited. So – to get the full picture – you have to scroll down and check the rest.

So instead of a tree view a tree map is applied, dividing the available screen space in rectangles, sub-rectangles, sub-sub-rectangles asf. The University now introduced the concept of ‘squarified’ rectangles, well explained here ►

Why is it called Sequoia View? Well on the program’s homepage we find

We are interested in the visualisation of large tree structures and since a Sequoia is a prime example...

Sequoia View deserves a place of honour here.
