The usual dual-panel view – once introduced by the famous Norton Commander – can be organized horizontally and vertically. Additionally each pane can hold folder tabs, a feature well known from present day browsers. For each pane and tab a tree view is available, making file operations as easy as they can get.
The inbuilt file viewer shows files of various formats, amongst those not only text, pictures and images, but also and very laudably so xml and pdf files. Not enough yet, freeCommander indulges with a video and audio player that is invoked in preview mode and thus is the tool of choice for organizing multi-media files.
Archives are handled with grace, even nested ones, and of course, freeCommander also offers an inbuilt FTP client, a feature anyone working with the net will cherish.
File and folder operations include of course the bare necessities (copy, move, delete, rename) but also bookmarks, renaming multiple files, wiping (secure erase), splitting, calculating folder sizes, an advanced search for files, comparison and synchronization of folders, and creating and verifying MD5 checksums.
In the course of time, freeCommander has won many a price and proven beyond doubt: freeware is State-of-the-Art-Software.
