The actual encryption is as easy as it can get: you start dsCrypt, drag & drop the file you want to encrypt into the small program window, enter your password, and the result will be a file with the same name as the original, let’s say “myprivatemesssage.txt” plus the new extension ‘.dsc’, so it’ll read myprivatemessage.txt.dsc. This file now is highly encrypted, and you may send it by email. The recipient only needs the password and this tiny, little program to reverse the procedure and decrypt the text file, which will be restored to its original name without the extension ‘.dsc’.
If you are careful enough to communicate the initial password safely, dsCrypt is all you need for a successful entry in the world of encryption.
