Best Free Desktop Database

One of the best selling programs for “micro computers” way back in the computer stone age was a database management system (DBMS) called dBase. It was a huge success, enabling many people without programming skills to develop their own personal or business database for books or customers. It really brought some of the power of main frame computing to your office or home pc – of course on a much much smaller scale; mind you we’re talking about PC running at the “lightning” speed of 4.4 MEGA Hertz. But if you could substitute your roller desk address collection by a dBase application – it was well worth the while. So many small businesses developed in the late evening and early morning hours their own customer relation management system.

Nowadays, with the advanced feature set of our spread sheets (►Best Free Spreadsheet or ►Best Free Office Suite), their ability to sort, manage and analyse your data, the necessity for a Desktop Database may not seem so obvious, but the very moment you have to use and synchronize several tables or realize, your main spreadsheet gets larger and larger because you keep adding column after column, you might well consider the use of a Desktop Database.
